Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

I thought they were all top shelf? (joking of course)

** " May I ask if U have actually used/auditioned one of the "top shelf" cables in your system lately?" **

Ok, I'll bite. What is one of the top shelf cables? List an example (or two) of a top shelf cable to give me an idea. And what does it do so extraordinarily different than a non top shelf cable? Does it do it its magic in every system that it is placed in, or do I have to have everything completely sympathetic to "get it"? BTW, That would not be a top shelf virtue to me. You should be able to install a top shelf product and clearly be blown away. No tweaking, no questions asked. (This could actually be a good thread in itself if everyone could give two examples of top shelf cable, and why.)

"Top shelf" is actually very relevant to my post Ken. I know that cables make a big difference. It is not always easy to audition them at home though. Even if you can get a free 30 day home trial you still have to break them in. The best way would be to hear them at a friends house or a dealer before you buy them. Or DIY would be fun.

If you read all of the mission statements from the various cable companies, they are all top shelf cables because they compete at 10 times the asking price. Unfortunately, all that this does is drag everyone else DOWN to the same level. (Can you imagine what the 1000 dollar speaker cables are supposed to be competing with? I suppose 10,000 dollar cables also compete with 100,000 cables and so on.)

Anyway, to answer the question directly, no. I only have value oriented cables. I have always put the big money elsewhere. I would like to make or buy some "top shelf" speaker cable, and then maybe later move on to ICs.
