As Rube wrote, he couldn't hear the differences between a pair of $1 and $1000 cables, but that doesn't mean there weren't any. Some of us use BIG superlatives to describe those SAME differences--such as 'huge' or 'night and day' or my (un)favorite, 'completely different'. To the latter, I have to ask...if the sound was very good previously, is it very bad now? If the bass was well defined and extended previously, is it now rolled off and poorly defined? See what I mean?I find differences among cable to be subtle at best. Listen yourself, carefully, going back and forth, and also listen for hours at a time to one pair before switching, as often, differences that become audible during longer listening sessions are not audible in the short term.
There are companies that loan/rent cables; perhaps someone can point you to one.
