My take is that they do different things but this is absolutely a situation where you have to try it. I've heard line conditioners make the sound much worse, much better, and make little or no difference. Power cords are more or less the same although I've heard less out and out degradation from decent after market cords. For whatever reason (IME) after market cords seem to have the greatest effect on CDPs. Generally line conditions are not a replacement for good power cords.
Any auditioning, reviews or advice outside of your system with your electrical supply is close to meaningless.
