They have to be tight. They're plastic, remember, If they start out loose, they would soon start falling out of the jacks. And because the ground connection does not encircle the jack, they have to be tight, but I already said that. As with other posters here, I've NEVER had a problem with them. If they scare you, don't use them.Oh, and they're easier to solder than any other plugs I've used. And my soldering is PATHETIC :-)
