Oddly enough, I found that a TT power cord upgrade does make a very big difference -- even the choice of AC plug for the purpose. My Thorens TD-160 responds extremely well to a dual-shielded 2-conductor Belden 83802 terminated with a Hubbell HBL8215C AC plug and Shurter IEC connector (plugged into a Schurter IEC inlet that's installed on the back of the TT's base). I even upgraded the TT's internal AC wiring to great effect.Rather than a Belden 83802, I would suggest a VH Audio Flavor 3 power cord which is a similar design, but a much improved unplated copper version of the tin plated copper Belden 83802. There are a number of AC connector options to choose from based on your budget and desired sonic signature...
