"If the frequency of the disturbance corresponds to a wavelength that is exactly twice as long as the cable, the reflected disturbance at the entrance will add to the next cycle coming in and increase the amplitude of the disturbance traveling in the cable. There will be another reflection when the increased disturbance hits the exit end, and another at the entrance end. The doubly-reflected disturbance will again add to the incoming disturbance. And so on to infinity. Each time, the reflection is less than 100%, so the thing will not explode!"
