Wow...my experiences are much different from these I read here, though the cables have definitely mellowed a bit after the first year or so (not as bright or zippy).
I have tried many cables in my system, and in comparison the Mapleshade Golden Helix's have always been: Very clean and pure sounding, very fast and punchy, terrific deep bass and pitch definition, good soundstage - especially front to back, very rich tones (no dryness), sweet high end with a high level of edge definition. Dynamics are huge. Drums and bass sound excellent. Horns are very satisfying....I need to stop now, but I love mine.And to answer your original question, I have not tried the Double Helix, or the Plus version.
