Yeah, the Siver siren was a silver coated copper... pink outer sleeve if I remember correctly.
My local dealer refers to VdH cables as Ven den Dull for the same reasons you do...
Have you not got anybody local who you can borrow/steal another cable from for an evening or two? It would at least confirm that it is cable based, but I do agree with your findings of both questions.I have a friend who seams to just collect cables... so I do get a good array to choose from or try whenever I am changing components etc.... its good to have a useful mate like that about.
I also buy and sell cables on ebay... that way you only tend to lose a bit of postage if its not too your liking.
