Question on Chris's perfect IC's

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Does spirling the wires around what ever core one chooses make any difference electrically? Can't I just run them down the sides without spirling them arond the core? or is all for mechanical strenght?
