Adding a shield to DIY DH Labs Power Plus A/C Cable - Questions

I want to experiment with adding a braided sheild to a DIY DH Labs Power Plus Cable. I am considering wrapping a layer of teflon tape around the exterior, placing the braid over that layer, followed by another layer of teflon tape over the braid. A layer of heat shrink would then go over the entire cord. The braid would be cut before (not connected) to the IEC end and connected (carefully)the the ground on the plug end.

My thoughts are to minimize any interaction of the shield with the conductors. Questions are:

1. Will the Teflon tape serve any real purpose as a dilectric - or should the outer DH Labs jacket be sufficient?

2. Are there other better dilectrics/insulators to use between the sheild and cable (keeping in mind this is already a thick cable)?

3. Are there any potential sonic drawbacks from adding a shield to this type of cable?

I'd like not to have to shield it but it will be connected from the wall to a PS Audio UPC-200 right behind the TV and other potential sources of noise. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.
