I agree with this review 110%.I've owned the channel islands Vpp-1 phono preamp with separate PSU for a while. I purchased a bulk length of DH labs power cord for the VAC-1 psu and played with difft plugs from Furutech & Oyaide. Switching from the stock Volex cord that Dusty supplies to a decent aftermarket one made big changes & gave me a lot of satisfaction.
About a year later i ran into the RAL umbilical - for $99 i figured why not? its the last tweak i could make to the phono preamp.
The change this 1/2M $100 umbilical imparts is fantastic...not just to my ears, but on the CD's i make of my LP collection. No other aftermarket cable change has made a 'night & day' change, but the RAL umbilical sure did.
no affiliation, just a happy customer. If i could swing it, all my gear would have RAL power cords.
The RAL umbilical lowered the noise floor, increased the size and palpability of the soundstage & added a tightness (control) to the lower bass notes that wasn't there before.
Even though my phono pre only costs about $775 in its current form, i can't think of another i'd like to own at this price point. With no noise floor its the bee's knees for making CD's.
Now when folks want to 'hear' what good cables do, all i do is swap out this tiny cord with the stock one...the entire sonic picture falls apart!
