I braided two pair of Cat 5s for speaker bi-wires a year or two ago. When I was researching them I seem to remember coming across a post by Sean (on a-gon) that mentioned braided CAT 5 has a number of attributes that help make it a reasonable speaker cable, but, at the same time, make it less desireable as an IC...I believe the capacitance was the issue, though I can't remember clearly.
