That's what George Cardas told me. The rhodium plating is hard and extremely smooth. Gold and silver, on the other hand, is quite soft, and the metal galls upon insertion and removal, scratching the surface, lowering the contact patch, and lifting the mating surfaces off. Rhodium, while having greater resistance, has a greater contact patch and thus the resistance is the same if not lower.What is interesting is that Cardas makes RCA's plated in Gold, Silver, and Rhodium. The rhodium has the most extended top end, the silver sounds 'sweetest', a softer presentation with a bit more mids, and the gold has good bass but a bit of roll off on the top end. Maybe that's why Monster, who advertises the thickest gold plating in the industry, sounds the way it does....
