Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Re: VH Audio Chela speaker cable

I concur with your observations. I find the CHeLA to be very musical and organic sounding. It's a truly classic design that should stand the test of time, IMHO. My CHeLA's are an external bi-wire run, but I have experimented with other speaker cables using bi-wire jumpers.

As to bi-wire (and tri-wire) jumpers; the choice is a matter of personal taste, opinion, wants and needs. Since you are using bananas for the CHeLA, you can either use bare wire or terminate the jumpers with spades. You can go with commercial makes or go DIY. If you go with a spade-terminated jumper and not bare wire, you might consider the CHeLA cable itself, or perhaps a Kimber cable for the purpose (use an individual run of cable for each leg). If you choose to use a bare wire connection with these types of bare copper multiple solid core litz design cables it may be problematic, though. Having said that; many folks choose to connect both the CHeLA (and Kimber's) via bare wire and consider that method to be superior to the use of connectors.

Bare wire is a mixed bag. It's nice method for jumpers (and main cables) since an added connector interface (and it's sonic signature) can be avoided. However, a typical binding post can be a brutal thing to bare wire, as well as posing a potential corrosion issue if bare copper wire is selected for use. But, if connected once and not removed, it can be viewed as a "semi-permanent termination interface", and minimal damage will occur such as the cable swapping of bare wire speaker cable often involves. The other nice thing is; if you buy some extra wire for jumper use you can toss out the spent wire and replace it with new wire if damage occurs down the road. However, it's a hassle to build yet another set of jumpers if a difficult-to-strip litz cable to is used for the purpose. So, here's another pragmatic option...

If you go with bare wire (and since you live in The Netherlands); you might also consider locally sourced Siltech or Van den Hul hookup wire (no less than 12 AWG) for the purpose. I have had good results with fine strand count silver plated copper wire for the purpose as it offers little if no mechanical problems. I find that a fine strand count conductor offers a more stable binding post torque than medium strand count or larger gauge solid core conductors, and silver plating avoids corrosion. You may or may not prefer the wire type's sound to other's for the purpose. It's just one option among many to choose from.
