i'm debating whether to put spades / bananas on the ends of my CHeLa pets, but haven't decided yet.the question i'm finding difficult to resolve: copper oxidizes, so if i leave bare wire as the termination, the exposed Cu will gradually degrade. if i tin the bundle w/ solder & then put into a spade (likely rhodium), then i'll be hearing the solder & the spade
(and yes, its easy to hear diff materials in solder / spades---eg: cardas solder sounds a bit zippy vs wondersolder, and gold spades sound warm / smooth vs rhodium which is far more akin to silver but w/ less tippinesss. Given the Cu materials, i'd likely use cardas solder & rhodium spades to help balance the Cu sound).
i guess my question is: how much will the oxidation degrade the performance? or, can i clean the oxidation off using some progold or other chemical?
(i've got less than 12 hrs on them so no listening impressions will be posted until i get at least 100hrs).
thx
