Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Price Point Prejudice, Perhaps?

When it comes to "active" gear; what's considered expensive yet still worthy by many folks is often a magnitude far greater than what's given to the merit of cable cost. Joe Audiophile upgrades from a $1,000 amp to a $6,000 amp and everybody say's, "Amen". Upgrade from a $100 cable to a $600 cable and the same folk's cry, "Phooey".

A realisation based on experience that cables are-as components and not just an accessory allows the higher price points to be better accepted.

A factor that's often not understood is that a cable upgrade can offer a cost value above it's price. A high performance power cord can improve a component's presentation in such a way that it brings that device's performance well into an upper price category as fed by stock power cords. Placing a mundane power cord on a high performance component will likely not allow the device to reach it's full sonic potential. If an expensive power cord "sounds x-times better" than a lesser cost product, it's value is compounded in terms of it's price-to-performance ratio.

What a power cord such as the AirSine can do to improve a component's performance-per-dollar can only be appreciated by listening to it's benefit as compared to other products.
