CAT-5 wires are especially unsuited for power cords. The insulation and jacket are not meant to withstand line voltage, abrasion, and flexing, even if you use enough of them to handle the current. You may say to yourself that the cord is only meant as an experiment for your own use, and that you will be extra careful with it. However, what if it outlives your experiment and gets into someone else's hands? What if you leave it plugged in some night through neglect, and it burns your house down?
