Re: XLO Ultra 12 or Straightwire Maestro

I am unfamiliar with the XLO, but since no one else has commented...By reputation, I think the XLO brand of cables strive for clarity, which they may have in common with the Maestro. The current version of Maestro (and for the past several years at least) is Maestro II. This is what I currently use in a dual run for biwire.

The Maestro II was chosen over several other cables such as MIT Magnum M3, Acoustic Zen Hologram Biwire, Wire World Eclipse 5 Biwire, Nordost Blue Heaven Biwire, Kimber Bifocal X, and Cardas Neutral Reference Biwire. I was after complete neutrality, meaning the wires that added the least amount of their own character to the sound. I might have gone with the Hologram (and been happy), but it may add some sweetness. The Kimber was good too, but I thought it contributed to a sort of grey tonality and somewhat of a sameness to all the performances. At another time I may have chosen the Neutral Reference (I think it is more detailed and neutral than the ICs).

But I purchased the Maestro II. These cables are not a filter, and consequently do not offer the smoothest reproduction. On the other hand, my impression was that they were just letting the system speak, and that they will be as resolute, extended, dynamic and smooth as the system: no more, but no less. The imaging, placement, and seperation of bass instruments was good too.

I am not familiar with your amp, but I am with your speakers. Would you like the Maestro? The 2+2's are smooth and I imagine that the Maestro will work well, but much depends on your amp. If it tends to bright and grainy, the Maestro will not do much to cover that up. If your system is smooth, they won't cover that up either. In other words, IMO the Maestro are pretty accurate so do not add or subtract much.
