Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

gah, please tell me I didn't just hear this. AC cords!

Ok, I truly just cant understand how AC cords could make a diff. I mean in high quality items, the power supply is so looked after, that I don't see how that cord could make a difference. I am looking for an explanation still, sigh.

But here is now what is freaking me out. In the interests of science, subjective phenomenological science of course, I ordered a mess of those Volex cords peeps have posted as saying, hey, they are not bad.

Now, I don't trust my ears too much after such a short audition (just this morning) and I feel I must wait until I give a full night's listen, but ack! I heard a difference. Gawd, please tell me it isn't true. Here is what I heard, and trust me, I was not even *trying* to listen for anything, I was just plugging them in to get them broken in or whatever.

-- Firmer Bass. The piece I was listening to, Ludwig's Pastoral Symphony, has double bass thrumming that all of a sudden had a sense of more taughtness to them.

-- Less hash and thrash in the upper mids and treble. Strings got , jeez, sweeter? This is most likely a clarity increase, and the result was my soundstage dropped back about a foot.

-- overall, and this may be due to the reduction in distortion artifacts I just mentioend at the frequency extremes, the sound warmed up a noticeable degree or two. A bit more richness in the mids, iow.

Needless to say, I'll be A-Bing tonight with my old favorites (thank god I enjoy the cd's I use for serious listening evaluation hehe).

But seriously, I do *not* understand why this would make a difference. Any down-to-earth engineering sceptical types who can tell me some straight dope theoretical possible reasons?
