"With the inclusion of this forum, the Bored is wrongfully segregating technical discussion from the General Board, where it is likley to provide the most benefit and garner the most interaction."It's "segregated" to enable technical opinion that often gets ridiculed by "non-techies" in a general forum. My only problem is it is restricted to registered users. And the name itself might deter some from posting here because they associate "propellerheads" with "wackos" or "loonies."
"There is already a tweakers forum for the technically minded, and a great deal of expertise and rational discussion is available there."
But tweaks are only a small portion of technical discussion. A DBT discussion, for example, would be off-topic on a "tweakers" forum.
"Excepting john curl and steve eddy, who seem to be eternally committed to schoolboy pissing."
In your opinion... (I'm not sure if you meant "accepting"...)
We don't agree with everybody, and I think the intent of this particular forum is to give "techies" a chance to voice share unabashed opinions, without the potential ridicule on non-technical forums.
"The only purpose of this forum is to remove theoretical discussion that may or may not be beyond the lay person."
I say it would **encourage** such discussion... Someone who tends to be reticent in stating a bold technical observation or opinion on a general forum would be more apt to post it here.
"Its stupid beyond anything the Bored has ever done, and I encourage all of you to think about what the long-term implications are likley to be from this decision."
Can you expound on what those "long-term implications" might be?
"Unlike other new forums, this one will become the dumping ground for any 'technical' topics the other forums dont want, and the playground of the pitiful."
Which I say is a **good** thing!! It may even keep these "unwanted" topics out of the other forums because there is now a place to post such topics. Which is the *root* reason why I say a forum like this one is necessary.

And the name itself might deter some from posting here because they associate "propellerheads" with "wackos" or "loonies."Uh, why would you worry about such an association at a place called Audio Asylum which is populated by inmates and overseen by a Bored of Lunatics ?

"Uh, why would you worry about such an association at a place called Audio Asylum which is populated by inmates and overseen by a Bored of Lunatics?"I'm not worried personally, I just stated *others* might be. (I could be wrong. And I hope I'm wrong.) Although you do have a point in the context mentioned, we will see if it becomes a haven for technical discussion.
I shall wear my prop hat and big ears with a certain glee!Seriously though, this board does have a value or merit for those with detailed Audio Engineering Q's and it allows those who are possesed with the DBT Q to have their wishes addressed.
After all the cable forum is and should be used for advice for synergy Q's and the like without being muddied up with the whole DBT debate.
After all the cable forum is and should be used for advice for synergy Q's and the like without being muddied up with the whole DBT debate.Let freedom reign!
Right on!
People who like to talk about freedom of expression often totally ignore freedom of assembly.
But more importantly, freedom of expression and the advancement of knowledge cannot thrive in chaos. If I rent a theater to present performances of “My Fair Lady”, freedom of speech doesn’t permit people to disrupt the performances demanding that the performance be terminated and a discussion of the value of DBTs be held instead. A university would never permit a group of students in a calculus class to demand that class time be set aside to discuss the value of Dickens as a novelist.
There has to be reasonable rules and a certain degree of order to ensure that freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and the advancement of learning and rational discussion all are preserved.
The Bored seems to be doing the best the can to do this. It seems to me that AA offers opportunity for just about anyone to discuss anything they want to about audio, so long as they aren’t abusive, don’t advertise, and respect the specific purpose the Bored has assigned to individual forums in an effort to accommodate all of the diverse interests of the Inmates.
And, of course, in the final analysis, this is a private board, and Rod can run it however he chooses. If he chooses well, many people will visit and post here regularly. If he does a poor job, not many people will hang around. Judging from the numbers, I would say Rod seems to be doing a pretty decent job so far.
The Bored consistently does an outstanding job for free, and all for the love of audio. Three cheers for the Bored - hip, hip, etc.And I don't know diddly about any tech stuff. I just drop by to listen. It's nice to have things concentrated here, so I know where to go to try and learn something technical.
