You could rent a helmet from a race shop who sells all of the goodies, seats, helmets, timers, costumes (race suite, LOL). It's not worth buying new a race suit or helmet if your only going to test the waters and maybe hit the track once or twice a year. A certified helmet will cost about 5-600 minimum. The more comfortable helmets cost more of course. Another reason not to buy new or if your not an avid racer, the suits and helmets have a certified life span. You will not be allowed to race with an expired certified life cycle of the helmet. Rentals are great for this. But, insurances, entrance fees, and race gas (if you have a race tune and need 100octane:), all suck money. Then your brakes, tires, clutch, and engine cooling are vital to survive at least one 25 minute round of spirited driving. All adds up.
Never did motorcycles, but, holy cow, the motorcycle riders at Hockenheim literally dragged their knees around the turns, at least it seemed, as they were so low to the ground. Talk about acceleration, the motorcycle groups always made the cars look slow during takeoff.
I always say people riding motorcycles are more brave than me, regardless if on the racetrack or on the street.
