Inmate Central, where civil and family-friendly discourse about off-audio topics (other than religion and politics) is welcome.

Were any of them truly great? And a name you left off the list...

Hubert Humphrey. Farther to the Left than McCarthy, Mondale, or McGovern (who wasn't for acid, amnesty, or abortion), a true New Dealer.
Humphrey was privately against the Vietnam War but supported it publicly out of loyalty to LBJ.
I've always felt the US would have been better off if Nixon had been elected in 1960 and Humphrey in 1968.
But that was later in life. I was a junior in HS during the 1972 campaign and my family despised Humphrey over his support for the war. My mom held coffee klatches for George McGovern. Had I been more politically astute, might have been different. Not that it mattered.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
