While I have traveled many a mile on ships, I prefer hobie cat daysailing over any power boat.
My guideline, if it floats, flys or eats, rental is the way to go.
And I agree about the money part. I once tried to get a handle on costs on a ship I was crewing. I was guessing about $5.000 an hour, not counting shore support costs, and before fuel costs went crazy. One docking fee I was aware of, $17.000. One ship had a helicopter and crew standby @ $10.000 an hour, for about three and a half hours , so they could lift the rotating radar head in place, while awaiting the radar tech to arrive. I did ok, but never got that kind of money thrown my way.
