Which were better than nothing. Bear in mind that Canberra can get to over 40C of dry heat in late Spring, Summer and early Autumn.
Since then we've had whole-of-house ducted evaporative cooling which is very effective and economical. Only suitable in a dry heat environment. 95% of Sprummer, Summer, and early Autumn is dry.
Ours can be set to automatic, but if it is going to be very cool overnight I can simply run the big fan with no water on the pads.
It does require monitoring of the wind direction so that the cooled air being pumped IN can leave via windows and doors in the lee of the house, as the wind shifts.
Last year we paid for a split system for the 'listening room / lounge dining room' so that Rh doesn't get above 45%, when we are running the QUAD 63 system.
