WORSE than a placebo, because they make the prob worse, but you think it's making it better.
I'm in a condo also, and couldn't go the outside antenna route. So what'd I do? Heh, heh....I suspended an FM Yagi antenna from my ceiling, pointing towards the radio transmitters in Albuquerque, 50 miles line of sight. The wife was NOT amused! It was a considerable improvement over the dipole I'd been using, but still so-so.
The problem was solved when we moved to a 2nd floor condo. Now, my meter is pegging with just an FM Reflect dipole, and there is no multipath. Life is good. So, if you MUST use an indoor antenna, ask the folks above you if you can hide it discretely in their balcony and run it down to your tuner. Just 8-10 feet more altitude can make ALL the diff.
