Audio Note Ongaku vs Kegon

Many years ago, I had the chance to audition both an Ongaku and then a Kegon, in the same room, driving the same pair of Audio Note speakers, with the same program sources. What struck me most about that experience is that both amplifiers sounded "good", but they definitely also sounded "different". This suggested to me at that time that each gave a slightly flawed but pleasant take on reality. (Flawed in different ways.) It was so long ago that I can no longer recall specifics of what I heard, but I was left wondering which was the more "real". This is in contrast to what you say regarding the similarity in sound of your three SETs. The Kegon and Ongaku did have different power supplies, the Kegon being much more elaborate and on a separate chassis. Maybe that's the key.
