Nice to see you here, as I just joined this forum today!

I am also considering building up a VT-62 line stage, as I have quite a few of these tubes available, and I am very much aware of the sonic attributes the 10/10Y/VT-25/801A and the VT-62 possess. Note that I haven't used my 76 line stage preamp circuit (as featured in SP Magazine roughly 20 years ago) for many years at this point.

I am currently using a transformer volume control (TVC) with no gain stage, and I was thinking of adding the VT-62 at the output of the TVC, and the plate-to-line transformer for the VT-62 would then drive my power amplifier.

I see that you have located the TVC at the audio output of the 801A gain stage.

What was the technical rationale for doing this? Is there an optimum location within the circuit for the TVC when using a DHT vacuum tube gain stage, such as the 801A, etc., in conjunction with it?
