Sometimes the belts become gummy and melt over time, dry cracked and broken, due to a reaction to atmospheric conditions, or to poor materials being used. It is not uncommon for some belts to be good as new, and others close by to be useless.Open it up, check it out. If you need to disassemble some of the deck, just remember where everthing goes, make notes/drawings if the terrain is complex, put the screws and other small parts in some sort of container so they don't slip away into a crack somewhere. It might be a good idea to get a service manual for the deck.
