RE: replacing a silicon rectifier with a diode

Diodes.....solid state....ARE made of Silicon.
You can make 'em....old school, out of copper oxide or Selenium, but I havent' seen one in a long time.
I suppose you could also use Germanium, another semiconductor. Also, Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) must have a diode in there somewhere or else why bother?

But 99% of 'diodes' in use for home stereo will be either Silicon or Vacuum........
