A ton of people have these BDR's nowadays. I have a bunch of the #3 and #4's. They will "work" under any component, SET not excepted. However, how they work may or may not be to your liking. #3's will make the sound more lush, midrange and bass fuller, treble more tamed. It sounds good like that, but the downfalls are that you lose some treble extension and clarity as well some some bass snap and tightness, overall sound becoming a little mushier, more romantic, and muddier, but under a lot of components, this sounds more pleasant. #4's sound similar, except they will have a little less of the effect. Things are still more romantic, more lush, but not as much as #3, overall more neutral sound than #3, but you don't get as much of a lush sound. I ended up mixing some #3 and #4 under same components initially, which helped to strike a balance. However, BDR's still have sort of a coloration, something that I can only describe as a kind of feeling/sound you get when you tap a graphite tennis racket, for example. This carbon/dull sound permeates the soundfield. I ended up using some Polycrystal cones combined with some BDR's under components and speakers, which tends to minimize this coloration while considerably opening up the high frequency and still retaining the lushness. Polycrystals by themselves sound very neutral and fast, but lacking some of the lush sound BDR's provide. So get both and experiment! You will need some pennies for matching heights for BDR.
