Liquid nitrogen is less expensive than beer. That's what the big push for high temp superconductors is all about; liquid helium runs about 50 dollars/liter (last I checked).I can't see the liquid being the cost definer. But, some dewars are very expensive, and they still have to worry about condensation when it comes out. And safety, storage, etc.
Don't personally know if cryo makes a difference. I was surprised to hear people dunk electronics, and they work afterwards. Differential expansion is a real problem for some semiconductor packages.
