20 mm Plexiglass (Perspex in UK) is an excellent shelf material - far more suitable than glass as it doesn't "ring". I had a single shelf made that was bolted to a sturdy speaker stand for my minimalist system about 15 years ago - Mark Levinson 390S CDP / preamp. No power amp needed as then using active ATC 50 speakers. Later changed to Avantgarde speakers when floor-standing monobloc tube amps were located near speakers.
