Realizing that all generalizations are false*, I am gonna take this opportunity to pile on and say, yeah, there's ample opportunity to improve on any "stock" Altec XO**. ;)I, too, FWIW, and on the implicit advice of one of the local gurus (i.e., what I inferred he implied!), moved to first order XOs on my "big Altecs" -- which have slowly become "Frankenaltecs" over the years.
* remember, "all generalizations are false, including this one"! ;)** also remember The largest room in the world... is the room for improvement. :)
