I agree with your comments. I was just a teen ager then. The Badmeiff/Davis book on loudspeakers had a nomogram (Jensen?) and that is how I got started building my third pair of speakers (which I made money with playing college dances with pre recorded music on my Crown Reel to Reel).I remember spending about $1,000 on Altec and EV components for them, along with a 511B horn, 808 8a driver, etc. That was a LOT of money for a kid back then. Yes the box was bigger than it needed to be but they did sound very good. My next pair of speakers were Klipshorns, which I used to justify my first bank loan for them!
I'm not sure when Tecron TEF came along but I do recall something like a $20,000 price tag!
Now most speaker design software today is cheap or FREE to run on a laptop.
What a world!!!
