Snag a pair of B&C DE-250s from parts express and hook them up with gator clips so you can take advantage of their liberal returns policy if necessary.
I went through that Altec 802/806/902/tangerine/beryllium/gravitonium nonsense years ago and the lowly phenolic diaphragms in the B&Cs sound more like the music I've helped make my entire life than any "everything was better in the Fifties" nostalgia trips.
