Well, he typically played the floor models which I agree that go louder and could use more power. Bobby recommended 20 watts. I used the Merlin TSM in a 300B, 8 watt system in my office and yes, it won't get real loud, but it sounded great at typical levels. They're easy to drive. 45s, no way.
I've also used them on 100wpc SS for an HT system and they won't handle that power and won't get you to live levels. But they'll get plenty loud.
