Assuming you mean sensitivity not efficiency, unless you're worried the sub will use too much electricity lol.

If purchasing a "powered" sub, or one which will have its own amp with gain controls the sensitivity is a none issue. I've run subs with 84db speakers, and the same sub again with 98db speakers, that's what the adjustable gain is for, to balance the subs output with the mains. And I've never had my subs gain anywhere near halfway with any setup. If you do its more than likely you have it set too high.
