You have a point,I often thought that my xrcd's exhibit additional glare, although dynamics and high frequency clarity are excellent.
I learn many moons ago that 'glare' and high frequency characteristics are NOT related.
Many mediocre HDCD recording also have additional 'glare' too, but of course the best ones sound incredibly better then regular cd's, in some cases the frequency extremes seem to be missing from the stock cd compared to the extended HDCD version.
