As I've been telling budding audio pros for decades, the difference between 12 KHz and 16 KHz is literally only a musical 4th (F# to B), and, at those frequencies, amounts to maybe 2 additional harmonics (depending on the fundamental) which are down by about 30-40 dB or more.
Again, "Music, Physics and Engineering" by Harry Olson should be required reading for all audiophiles. 'Course, it's not glossy or full-color, so most won't read it.
