I like to use the analogy of a camera lens in association with a camera. If you consider an audio cable or power cord as the camera, and the connectors as the lens, you can't take a truly superior photograph unless the lens is just as good as the camera. I don't consider one aspect as being more important than the other, since they both tend to provide an equal role in high-performance signal transfer functions. I/O jacks can also be of equal importance in terms of the overall gestalt.
