I have a Rogue RP-5, purchased new from Overture. The RP-5 and the RP-1 both use the same tubes, JJ 12au7 and they are nothing special. I replaced the tubes with Mullard NOS 12au7 and the sound is much better all the way around, better bass and more extended highs. I heard the RP-1 and didn't care for it at all. I really love the RP-5 preamp and it is extremely reliable and totally dead quiet.
The RP-5 phono section is excellent, it works for MM cartridges and also low output MC cartridges and there are many settings that can be changed, like capacitance, gain and impedance. You get that tube sound, but with a tight bass and extended highs. I have had mine for 4 months now and this is one of the few pieces I have bought where I didn't have buyers remorse. Previously I was using an all tuber Audible Illusions Modulus 3B preamp which was no slouch, but the RP-5 is better.
