JLandreth, the Shindo moving coil inputs on the preamps are designed for low impedance cartridges, in particular, Ortofon SPUs. Other options being Miyabi, Koetsu, Transfiguration, Supex, etc...You also have the option of upgrading by using an external transformer but this will cost a pretty penny both for the transformer and interconnects (as you commented on).
Btw, I owned an Aurieges and have heard the Monbrison extensively (currently own a Masseto). There is a clear and easily heard improvement at each level. If you like your Aurieges, you will be quite pleased with a Monbrison.
