RE: ? on Quad 57 bass panels

Wow sorry to hear about the flooding and damaged Quad!!

While the dust cover assemblies don't provide a hermetic seal they generally help with minor exposure to water, etc. I've certainly seen a number of ESL and ESL-63 that have dog piss all over the dust covers. Panels work fine.

The hum is a leakage path in the panel. Could just be dumb luck if the panels are original to the speaker they are quite old. Unfortunately once they start humming there is no fix short of replacement. They aren't even rebuildable at that point.

If the speaker is playing nicely other than the hum you can continue using it without fear of further damage. The damage has been done. Ultimately the panel will have to be replaced the hum will get worse over time.
