RE: DWM owners; happy?

I haven't posted on this forum for years, but this question got me interested...

I absolutely love supplementing my three series with two DWMs.

Here is what I have learned over the years.
1). DWMs are especially useful if you place your main Maggies further out from the front wall (6-8ft). It helps fill out the upper bass which is not getting as much reinforcement as you get with 3-4 ft.
2). Like Marc, they make a HUGE difference in smoothing out the bass. You can get bass flat to a couple of dB. I have mg3a's which have much lower low bass than modern three series. Again, the DWMs provide even bass all the way down to 30 hz.
3). It took me years of practice to overcome the reluctance to follow Magnepan's advice and differ the distance of the two bass panels. In my current smaller room I place one about 12 inches ahead of the main panel and the other about 6 inches behind. This is the key to super smooth bass. It is like having multiple subwoofers and smoothing out the room. You can also adjust toe in, distance to SW, etc.
4). I have found the DWMs are much much better with their own amps. I just use some old high power amps I have sitting around. Much punchier than trying to run all four speakers on one amp.

I love my Magnepan speakers, preferring them over substantially more expensive and newer speakers that I also own. But the DWMs are essential for me.
