What causes panel flapping?

Hi,

Question is mainly for learning/curiosity. I had a pair of 1.6 and Emotiva XPA-1's many years ago.
I recall in few instances there was panel flapping when watching movies. I was told at
the the time to set AVR for Full Size speakers and not to worry. It cannot hurt the maggies.

Is the flapping due to amp clipping which is hard to believe with XPA-1's or is it just one
of the planars weakness, hitting some precise resonant low frequency?
