Further thoughts on Rega/Goldring

Well, it's been over a week and the Goldring 1042 has settled in after extensive play. While it has seemed to smooth out a little, it hasn't lost any of it's impact. Bass is tight and full, very extended and coherent. Overall it is very detailed with just a touch of warmth (my preference) and a very open soundstage. While not having a frame of reference with other cartridges in this price range with the Rega, I am still very satisfied with the tonal accuracy of the 1042 and how it presents jazz and vocals. There may be better cartridges out there for the Rega, but I can say with a great degree of confidence that the Goldring/Rega combo will not disappoint.

Hi there,

Your sentiments mirror my experience with the 1042.... It was however not on Rega Table, nor with a Rega Arm....

For anyone considering the 1042 though, do consider the Reson Reca (a "hotrod" Version of the 1042 made for a rather unusual UK Company - DNM/Reson - by Goldring)....

With the trade-in scheme the Reca will not be much more than the US Retail for the 1042, but it is a WHOLE lot better a Cartridge....

Don't ask me what they have done to get that result.... They won't tell (believe me - I tried)....

I wrote about my experiences with both 1042 and Reca on the TNT-Audio web-site.....

Ps, I loaned my 1042 to a "Friend" with a Systemdek IIX and Roksan Tabriz Arm. It has since been AWOL....
