Just a garden variety VG+ six-eye stereo copy I picked up recently.
Wow, what a great record. I've seen it in used record stores so many times and gave it a pass because I figured, Michel LeGrande, he writes corny movie scores, what is this, Kenny G stuff?
Should have flipped the jacket over to see who plays on the thing.
The versions of "Night in Tunisia" and "Stompin' at the Savoy" are worth the price of admission all by themselves.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

As you know, the original 1958 version of this record has three groups, all topflight musicians. What you may not know is that in 1963, an "updated" vinyl version appeared with a newly recorded 4th group of jazz stalwarts -- from Clark Terry to Paul Gonsalves to Tommy Flanagan -- that is every bit as fantastic as the three from 1958.

My copy is on a Japanese Philips LP (pity the notes are in Japanese) on which everything is in superb sonics. I never understood the "Alpha Plus" thing until delving into the subject.

This should be in every jazz fan's collection.

and theres a copy on Discogs, Japanese Phillips like yours, ships from Japan, order placed. Whoopeee!
BTW, avoid the Speaker's Corner reissue. According to Michael Fremer it was cut from a mono-rechanneled-to-simulate-stereo master tape.

Ha! I have passed it over a few times myself. Thanks for the suggestion. nt, posted on September 30, 2022 at 12:02:06

bought years ago used for 1.99 and it still sounds quiet&wonderful. I think those days are over though. A few local places are all closed up and when I went to PREX the selection was about one third of what it used to be.

At 1.99 you could walk away with an easy 20-30 albums for 50 bucks after checking condition. A few hours of checking but worth it. Now it's mostly used CD's, I swear it. I have some hope that it will change, who knows.

Finally got back online with this computer after going from S mode to regular whatever that means, probably S for safe or secure. Trying to grow some grass now, plenty of rain too
