Is the vintage one made in England with the metal trigger much better than the the current blue plastic Zerostat 3? Thanks.

the old one is weak after years of use, but still manages to work. I use the newer one for greater static problems. I kept both just in case the new one stopped working for whatever reason. So far none, and it's been 5 years

it is a consumable device, all use is consumption with this product. Get a new one.

Diskwasher, in the distant past, included a small neon tester that fit into the discharge opening of the static gun to check performance, if you bought a somewhat obscure, because of price, full boat product that included all their stuff in a smoke colored plastic covered wooden holding tray, with a recessed place for everything , plus two holes for spare cartridge holders.

of course, one can always check for a spark with your finger .

I will never forget a video showing an Italian ultra expensive stereo set up, where the proud owner had essentially a power station the size of a car just to power his stuff, in an adjoining room separated by a sliding glass door. The guy was a consumer of the ultra expensive showpiece stuff, and had it in every playback section, no weak links for this guy.

So one would think a guy in that deep would know his stuff, and he did, describing his equipments features and benefits to a tee. then he puts on a record and shows the necessary final touch before play, a discharge of an anti static gun at shoulder height , saying a sprinkling of ions improves sound.
I could only smile at his unique path to enjoyment, he sure had impressive equipment .
