Thelma Houston And Pressure Cooker; The Moscow Sessions, both game changers for what great records can sound like plus absolutely wonderful music.

Ry Cooder The Slide Area and Eurythimics Be Yourself Tonight both mastered at Sheffield

is this some kind of sick joke, or your way to elicit responses.

I do not find it funny is my response

My Sheffields are impeccably recorded and a pleasure to listen to. I agree that I wish there were more classical options but it is what it is.

Harry James is a god and I was mortified to see how my septaguenarian brain typo'd his name in the non-edible headline.

I hope that satisfoies our won personal Hall Monitor.

Discogs says that Ry Cooder The Slide Area was mastered at A&M by Bernie Grundman

https://www.discogs.com/release/1492931-Ry-Cooder-The-Slide-Area

The plating was done at Sheffield Lab Matrix. That's not the same as mastered at Sheffield Lab Records. If it was mastered at Sheffield Lab Records (The mastering lab) it would have been mastered by Doug Sax.

Bernie cut the lacquers and then those lacquers were sent to Sheffield Lab Matrix to make Fathers and Mothers and Stampers.

First they came for the dumb-asses
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a dumb-ass

Has been one of my all-time favorite recordings.

"Man, that mouse is Awesome." - Kaemon (referring to Jerry, of Tom and Jerry fame)

I remember those days when, as the saying went at the time ,as the quality of the recording went up, the quality of the material went down, unlike records of today. But at least it was better than train sounds, the previous high fi stuff peddled to satisfy the desire of thirsty hi fi addicts.

I remember the public surprise expressed by the creator of a Christmas record made primarily as a commercial hi fi demo record to only exploit a direct to disk process , done with an assembly of the best musicians he could round up and finance for his experiment , playing well known material to minimize mistakes , that the guy considered as marginal musically, but useful to make his SOTA record, which was a quality landmark process at the time . kind of a test record that played music.

he was surprised when people really dug what he considered a nothing special musical effort , and the trans Siberian orchestra went on to make many records, probably even to this day.
