Way cool. I didn't know this one was coming. I can't tell for sure but it looks like there will be some limited number of numbered editions but not sure if there will be additional runs of not numbered copies.

This is turning out to be a really good year for vinyl for me. Great new releases, lots of new music on used vinyl and some really cool new reissues.

why is it that some people still like to moan and groan about playing lifelong collections of vinyl when anyone hear on VA knows it sounds excellent. I'm referring to a recent post on digital from a gnome, if interested

I know this is old news and I'm way behind the times, but I just learned that MoFi went bankrupt in 1999 with the assets purchased by Music Direct. Too bad the original owners couldn't hold on for a few more years to cash in on the LP boom.

Oh, and love that Alan Parsons LP. But I don't know whether to file it alphabetically under "A" for The Alan Parsons Project, or under "P" for Parsons.

I listen to most of my records but some people buy records and never listen to them at all. I don't really have an opinion on what sounds better on my system CDs or LPs or digital downloads much less an opinion on which is better. Honestly I think it's really interesting all the takes people have on equipment, music and the sources for their music.

The real reason for making the post was to give anyone who might have an interest in getting a MFSL Alan Parson's Eye In The Sky 45 RPM release a heads up that now is the time to preorder. I'll be doing mine in a few minutes.

Under A for "Alan Parsons Project, The". That shows up in foobars folder structure view (and in Access Database) right after Al Stewart and right before Albert Collins as it should. I use first names for artists ordering.

Personally I like the more recent incarnation of Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab.

pressing is quite good-sounding, enough that I don't feel the need to shell out for the fancy one. Though, if someone else bought it for me, different story.

or lack thereof, of these "audiophile" pressings are system-dependent.

This wasn't an Alan Parson LP I owned when it came out. In the last decade I picked up the Speakers Corner version as my first copy - which seems real good to me.

What the heck if I see a clean original around it's likely that I'll pick it up just to hear it.

I don't mind having 3 or 4 different good versions of records I like around.

IDENTICAL copies of some of my favorite LPs, ha ha. Usually in case I wore one out...but I've never worn one out, lol.

I've really enjoy listening to every 45 RPM LP record I own so for me it's worth it.

And I don't care if it's system dependent or just a figment of my imagination.

I'm sure these 45-RPM releases are very good.

one can look at satisfaction many ways, but traditionally the best sound starts with the best originating source.

Sure , everything is throttled down by the weakest link in the system, but you don't want that to be your original signal.

This in no way endorses buying Alan parson's project recordings, although I am sure he is a fine person.

I am sure this insight has dawned on you , but much like the car collectors who buy collectable cars, keep them for years, and then sell them with very low miles, it is because they have a rotation of cars to drive.

Myself, I have favorites that get more use, but not like the old days when I had a small stack in heavy rotation, plus my playback and record care has advanced so that I don't get any noticeable wear.

I have a few multiple copies that I bought to get a less worn record, and still haven't cut loose with the replaced stuff, the rest were mistakes.

Last time I sold some records to a store, it was not worth the trouble, but maybe buyback prices are better now.

This kind of begs the question., posted on May 26, 2022 at 11:55:49
Is an older, standard first, or second, pressing, pressed from a then young master inferior to an audiophile spectacular pressed from a forty year old master of the same music?

Sometimes yes...-and sometimes no.

I've got the a clean original, the Speakers Corner and the MFSL SACD. The SC pressing and the MFSL sound superb, hard to believe they could be significantly bettered. This is my favorite APP album.

Still hoping for audiophile reissues of Turn of a Friendly Card and Pyramid.

I didn't get this LP when it came out - think I read a review of it and it wasn't a good one. But I found out much later it's a very good record (screw negative reviews) and many think it's his best.

I've got the Speakers Corner version and like it - supposedly it's their only non all analog pressing. All their digital stuff is Pure Pleasure and I've had good results with them. Don't know how it would compare to a clean original. This one I have high hopes for - the I Robot 45 rpm is great IMO. I'm actually getting the I Robot 45 rpm One Step just to see if could be better (kind of to test my stereo).

I have a Classic records Turn Of A Friendly Card (AR-8226), a Speakers Corner version and a Japanese press. I listened to a few of these recently (don't remember any conclusion I might have made). I'd like this one on 45 rpm but wouldn't really expect much.

The signature song is awesome. Rest of the album is kinda .. meh. if you are buying it for the one title tune, go for it! As for the complete LP as a whole, well, the original pressing is terrific!

Depending on what hat I'm wearing it's possible than no Alan Parsons Project album is better than a "meh". Whether talking collecting records or listening to music I have lots of different hats and I'm really looking forward to putting this record into my collection and listening to it too!
